PlantVillage Nuru: Helping Farmers Diagnose Crop Disease
PlantVillage Nuru is a free Android application developed by PlantVillage to assist farmers in diagnosing crop diseases in the field without requiring an internet connection. The app was developed in collaboration with domain experts at the CGIAR centers and uses Google's Tensorflow machine learning tool and a database of images collected by crop disease experts worldwide. The app uses machine learning models to compare the accuracy of diagnoses to human experts and extension work. The app is continually being updated, and it allows for a blended model where images are examined by AI and human intelligence through a cloud system.
